Dr. Lydia Charitopoulou graduated from the English-language Medical Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice, Slovakia, earning the degree of MUDr. (Doctor of Medicine) with distinction. Her studies included a research thesis.
She completed her postgraduate clinical training entirely in Germany, initially in General Surgery and subsequently in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Following completion of her specialty training, she pursued advanced subspecialty training in Gynecological Endocrinology, Reproductive Medicine, and Endometriosis at the Fertility and Endometriosis Center Offenbach and later at the University Hospital Bonn.
A major focus of her academic and clinical work is fertility preservation through ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation, an innovative field that also formed the subject of her doctoral research.
Clinical Expertise
During more than ten years of clinical practice in Germany, Dr. Charitopoulou worked in leading institutions including Ketteler Hospital Offenbach and Asklepios Clinic Wiesbaden, gaining extensive experience in obstetrics, gynecology, and minimally invasive surgery.
Her clinical and surgical practice covers the full spectrum of modern obstetrics and gynecology, including:
- High-risk pregnancy management
- Reproductive medicine and infertility
- Endometriosis
- Urogynecology
- Breast and gynecological oncology
- Minimally invasive gynecological surgery
Throughout her career, she has independently managed hundreds of deliveries and gynecological surgical procedures, with particular expertise in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
She holds certification in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery (MIC I – Laparoscopy & Hysteroscopy) from the German Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (AGE) and is certified in Obstetric and Gynecological Ultrasound, recognized by both the German and Greek health authorities.
She is also certified in Colposcopy, contributing to the prevention and early diagnosis of cervical disease.
As a Consultant in the Department of Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine at the University Hospital Bonn, she actively participated in one of Germany’s leading programs for ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation, under the supervision of well known Professor Sänger, contributing to advanced fertility preservation strategies for women facing fertility-threatening conditions.
